If you were attacked by a dog would you drop whatever is in your hands or would you use whatever you could to protect yourself? What if you were attacked by a person? If you get a flat on a dark road wouldn't you want to know that you could protect yourself if a couple of strangers stopped with bad intentions?
You are surrounded by weapons. At work, in your car, at home- there are things that can be used to strike, shield, trap or poke.

Many martial arts schools teach weapons but typically the practice is about memorizing choreographed forms (kata), often with fake weapons. Palace Hand is different. It is about how techniques work rather than how they look. We don't get bogged down in stylized form and instead practice application of skills.
We provide training in over twenty different weapons. The unique method of Motobu Udundi Kobu-jutsu includes weapons from Okinawa, mainland Japan, and from China.
The weapons of Palace Hand mesh seamlessly with our empty-hand movements making it easy and natural to use anything as a weapon. Like other aspects of Palace Hand, we have no blocking movements and combine defense and offense in the same movement.
The weapon skills that you learn at Kodokai come directly from our teachers on Okinawa. We do not do tournament style weapons forms, nothing for show, only for function.
Our weapons class will begin again, after a pause, on January 2. It will be filled to capacity immediately as it is very popular and like nothing else around.
We restrict access to the class due to the focus on application of skills. Participants must have some ukemi skills and experience in our methods in order to function safely. If you are interested you will need to learn basic movements in our empty-hand martial arts classes and have proven ukemi skills (falling, rolling, etc...) before being allowed in the weapons class. Give us a call or drop by to talk to us about your interest. It is definitely a very neat martial art to practice and we'd love to share it with you, but we have to keep thing safe without bogging down the rest of the class.
