There are many martial art schools in the Rhode Island area. Everyone has a place just around the corner. Why then, do folks drive from all parts of Rhode Island, from eastern Connecticut and from Massachusetts to belong to the Kodokai Dojo?
The simple answer is that we are trusted. We have proven, throughout decades, that we offer a quality, value, and experience that makes it worth driving by countless other schools to be a member of Kodokai.
We are not a franchise with a school in every town. We are not about the "business" of martial arts, and we don't mass produce students.
Our instructor has 32 years of teaching experience. Our instructor served in the U.S. Marines, has trained in over a dozen different schools in Japan, and most importantly, has first-hand self-defense experience. Many schools are taught by people who have never had to defend themselves. They merely repeat the theory that they have been taught.
3. We do not waste your time on fluff. You won't waste your valuable training time memorizing choreographed movements, breaking thin pine boards, point sparring or learning acrobatics. We have no "black belt clubs" (pay for a guarantee that you ill get a black belt), pizza parties, glitter "weapons", striped belts, camo belts, plastic trophies or medals. 4. We are genuine. We teach authentic martial arts that we personally studied in Japan.
We don't change with every trend. Nowadays almost every school has some wrestling mixed with punching and kicking and packaged as MMA. We have something that works so we aren't constantly looking for something else to offer.
6. We never use payment contracts. We have never needed to lock people into payment plans in order to retain students. Instead, we have a unique approach to keep our students- we provide a quality service. 7. Our school is well-established. Walk into our school and you can feel it's history. There is no doubt that we have stood the test of time and will be there for you tommorow as well. We are not 'making it up as you go along' but have well-established teaching methods. This not only helps you to learn faster and more efficiently, but keeps classes safer as well. If a school looks like it could disappear overnight, beware. Many do. 8. We teach martial arts, not performing arts. Many schools rely upon parlor tricks; board breaking, trampoline jumps, belt stripes, pizza parties, choreographed movements and countless other forms of entertainment, to provide the illusion of progress. We, instead, focus on substance. We offer fun lively classes, but with practical information and skill development as our focus.
